Following our filming of sociable weavers in Nambia, Ross was able to effectively and rapidly address the questions we sent him from Japan during the editing process. Incidentally, Ross was also quite knowledgeable about Japanese culture and we had lots of fun chatting with him around the dinner table when we finished filming each day during our time in Namibia. Thank you very much!

Evolve offers a variety of services to the film maker wishing to work in Africa. We discuss some of these services below, but are always happy to discuss any unique requirements you may have. Please contact us should you have any questions or are uncertain about anything we mention below.

  • Biological advice

    Keeping your film accurate...
Whether on location or in the editing studio, up-to-date, accessible and and - most importantly - accurate data is essential for the production of any quality documentary. The provision of this data and advice on how to best employ it is perhaps the primary concern of our company. This can vary from the explanation of a particular species’ basic biology to detailed reports on complex aspects of entire ecosystems. We can provide both generic and specialist advice on a wide variety of biological topics. Please take a look at our consultants listed in Our People for a selection of who we currently have on our books. We are, however, constantly expanding our network of advisors and are also happy to source new specialists to suit your requirements.

  • Wilderness location scouting

    Finding the perfect location...
Finding the perfect location is often simply a case of having in-depth knowledge of an area. That is something we certainly have at Evolve. For most of us, our involvement in biology has taken us far off the beaten track and into some of the most remote regions on the planet. Many of us have a private interest in travel or have even guided professionally. Please speak to us about your location requirements – the more remote they are, the happier we’ll be about scouting them out or even recommending our own favourite spots. We produce detailed location reports including photographs to facilitate this process.

  • Logistical support

    Getting everything sorted...
Remote wilderness locations, although exciting, can be difficult to access. All the more so for those with little experience of Africa; our people, our cultures, our (often scary) animals and all the many idiosyncrasies of our amazing continent. So, speak to us about what Evolve can do for you; whether co-ordinating for a two member documentary crew or guiding you through the Drakensberg – we aim to make life easier for you.

  • Additional services

Helping you any way we can...
The requirements of the film industry are many and varied. We offer a variety of other services that may be of use to you and your company. Basic “wrangling” is well within our scope. For more complex wrangling or animal training, we would be happy to recommend or source an appropriate agent. We can provide basic data sheets on species (e.g. Chacma baboons), areas (e.g. the Western Cape), habitats or biomes (e.g. the Cape Floral Kingdom) or even entire systems (e.g. the Benguela upwelling system on the West Coast of South Africa). Please contact us about any specific requirements you may have. If we can’t help ourselves, we’ll do our best to put you in touch with someone who can.
